Itinerary

Day 1 - Friday 28 October 2022

Melbourne - Hobart

Welcome to Sisterhood Womens Travel.  Your tour hostess and fellow travellers will meet you at the designated departure point at Melbourne Airport for your flight to Hobart.. Sit back, relax and enjoy your flight.

On arrival at the Hobart Airport we will be greeted by our Tasmanian Coach Captain and travel to nearby historic village of Richmond. Here we may view the spire of Australia’s oldest Catholic Church from beneath the arch of Australia's oldest stone bridge still in use. Visit Rosny Lookout for panoramic views of Hobart set against the majestic backdrop of the Wellington Range. Cross the Tasman Bridge to Hobart City and tour historic Battery Point, Salamanca Place and the vibrant waterfront before settling into our accommodation for the next four nights.  Dinner will be enjoyed at a nearby restaurant.

Day 2 - Saturday 29 October 2022

Hobart (B)

As it is Saturday morning, we will take the opportunity to explore the famous Salamanca open-air Market with its bustle and buskers, colour and excitement. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax or explore as you wish. We suggest taking the ferry from the city to MONA the Museum of Old and New Art or relax in the beautiful Botanic Gardens.  Dinner at leisure tonight.

Day 3 - Sunday 30 October 2022

Huon Valley (B,L)

Today we travel south of Hobart to the beautiful Huon Valley. The region is a mecca for fine food, arts and craft. We'll visit one of the most stunning gardens in the area before enjoying lunch at one of the top restaurants. Along the way we'll have time to stop and explore some the quaint and quirky towns. The region is also well known for its vineyards, craft beers and ciders. Later in the afternoon we'll find the perfect one to unwind in. A great day out is assured. Dinner at leisure tonight.

Day 4 - Monday 31 October 2022

Bruny Island (B.L)

After breakfast we will travel south to Kettering to board the ferry and cross the beautiful D’Entrecasteaux Channel to Bruny Island. Not only can Bruny Island boast some of Tasmania’s most superb scenery of sweeping beaches, mountains and spectacular capes and bays, it also has a fascinating history. Notable early visitors include Captain Furneaux (1773) Captain Cook and Bligh in the ‘Bounty’ who planted Tasmania's first apple tree. We arrive at Roberts Point on North Bruny and tour south past The Neck, which is a game reserve of penguin and mutton bird rookeries and the site of the memorial to famous Tasmanian aboriginal Truganini. Continue to scenic Adventure Bay and explore the foreshore before visiting the Bligh Museum built of convict made bricks and housing interesting historical exhibits which include the remains of Cooks Tree. We'll enjoy lunch on the island, then on our return journey we'll stop at Island Produce which offers a superb quality range of fudge, truffles and chocolate sauces. Yummy!

We will reboard our ferry and return to Hobart, travelling beside the Derwent River. Dinner at leisure tonight.

Day 5 - Tuesday 1 November 2022

Hobart - Port Arthur (B)

Today we travel via Sorell Causeway and Midway Point for our full day tour to the Tasman Peninsula. Take in magnificent views from the look-out above picturesque Eaglehawk Neck and Pirates Bay before continuing to the Port Arthur Convict Settlement. Within the 40 hectares of landscaped grounds lies a rich history of Australia’s convict past. Included in the entry is a guided walking tour, a short Harbour Cruise, access to the Visitor Centre and Interpretation Gallery as well as more than 30 buildings, ruins and restored gardens and houses; explore at your own pace before departing the historic site to our nearby accommodation.  Dinner at leisure tonight.

Day 6 - Wednesday2 November 2022

Freycinet National Park - Bicheno - St Helens (B)

Today well travel north through Buckland and the beautiful seaside towns of Orford and Swansea. We'll pause at the convict built, enigmatic Spiky Bridge before gaining magnificent views of Great Oyster Bay, encompassing Maria Island and the rugged Freycinet National Park. This spectacular national park is the home of famous Wine Glass Bay, often listed among the world's most beautiful beaches. We'll visit the lookout at Cape Tourville for panoramic views along the east coast. In the afternoon, we travel through Bicheno and enjoy the beautiful coastal drive to our overnight destination at St Helens.  Dinner at leisure.

Day 7 - Thursday 3 November 2022

St Helens (B,L)

Today after our breakfast we'll travel a short distance from St Helens and visit the award winning Pyengana Dairy who have been creating some of Australia’s finest artisan farmhouse cheese from rich creamy milk for over 130 years. Build up an appetite with a walk to the stunning St Columbus Fall's and then we'll enjoy lunch at the famous Pub in the Paddock. Later in the afternoon enjoy a walk along the white sandy beaches of Binalong Bay.

Day 8 - Friday 4 November 2022

Woolmers - Strathmore House - Launceston (B,L)

Departing the east coast, we'll travel through the towns of the Fingal Valley with it's majestic mountains, rain forests and scenic farmlands. After lunch, we will tour the World Heritage Woolmers Estate and National Rose Garden. This property shows a fascinating reflection of colonial life in Tasmania with the Rose Garden displaying one of the finest collections of historic roses in the southern hemisphere.

Next, we explore the grand rural colonial estate of Strathmore. Set in beautiful parklands on the banks of the South Esk River, this magnificent Georgian house has a heritage walled garden, several farm buildings and its own lake. After a day of history, we will check in to our central accommodation in Launceston.

Day 9 - Saturday 5 November 2022

Tamar Valley - Cataract Gorge (B,L)

Today we explore the Tamar Valley and the Tamar River, Australia’s longest navigable tidal estuary, meandering 58 kilometres through the heart of cool climate vineyards, orchards and hamlets to its mouth at historic George Town, Australia’s third oldest settlement. Pass through the Swiss style Grindelwald village with its alpine style houses and unusual wood carvings then we will take in the magnificent views from bush-ranger Brady’s Lookout. After a lovely lunch at a local winery, we'll explore Cataract Gorge with a walk through the magnificent cliff-side gardens or you may prefer to ride the world's longest single span chairlift (own expense) or enjoy the tranquility of the gardens at the on-site café before returning to our accommodation.

Day 10 - Sunday 6 November 2022

Lauceston - Melbourne (B)

Time to say goodbye to Tasmania as you make your way back home to Melbourne. Or, for an all round Island experience why not transfer to tour 9 Day West Coast Wilderness starting in Launceston today. (Join both tours and save $150).
