Namibia is a vast, sparsely populated country offering a deep sense of peace and solitude. Its ancient landscapes—featuring rock art and a 280-million-year-old petrified forest—create a powerful feeling of history and wilderness. It is also home to remarkable wildlife, including desert-adapted elephants, lions, giraffes, rhinos, and vast herds of antelope. The climate is semi-desert, with warm to hot days, cool nights, and generally dry conditions, influenced by its high plateau and the cold Atlantic Benguela Current.

Continuing our safari, we journey north and east into the remarkable region of Damaraland. Along the way, we pass Namibia’s highest mountain, the majestic Brandberg, rising to 2,573 metres, while taking time to spot wildlife and soak in the sheer vastness of the surrounding landscapes.

Damaraland is a place of striking contrasts—rich colours, dramatic table-top mountains, ancient rock formations and unique desert-adapted vegetation. Over time, wind, water and geological forces have shaped this extraordinary terrain into rolling hills, gravel plains, dunes and ancient riverbeds.

It is the raw beauty, stillness and sense of isolation that make this region so captivating—offering a true connection to wilderness in its purest form.

If time allows this afternoon, we’ll visit the nearby Twyfelfontein rock engravings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or alternatively explore them in more depth tomorrow.

On arrival, we check in to the stunning Camp Kipwe, where we’ll stay for the next two nights. Nestled amongst granite boulders with sweeping views across the Aba Huab Valley, this unique eco-lodge blends seamlessly into its surroundings. With its tranquil lounge spaces, rock-framed swimming pool and beautifully designed bungalows, it’s the perfect place to unwind and fully embrace the magic of Damaraland.

After an early breakfast, we set off on an exciting 4WD adventure along the ephemeral Aba Huab River valley, exploring this extraordinary landscape in search of wildlife—most notably the elusive desert-adapted elephants, should they be in the area.

Day 10 - Ssaturday 1 May 2027

Damaraland - Etosha (B

After breakfast, we farewell Camp Kipwe and set off on our journey towards Etosha National Park. Travelling through ever-changing landscapes, we make a meaningful stop along the way to visit a Himba Living Museum.

Here, we’ll meet members of the local Himba community—one of Namibia’s last remaining traditional peoples—and gain insight into their culture, customs and way of life. With their warmth and openness, they share elements of their daily routines and beliefs, offering a rare and authentic cultural experience.

Continuing our journey, we arrive at Etosha Oberland Lodge, located just outside the southern boundary of Etosha National Park. Time permitting, we’ll head out on an introductory game drive into the park, returning before sunset.

Etosha, often referred to as the “Great White Place,” is one of Africa’s most unique wildlife destinations. Its vast salt pans and waterholes attract an incredible concentration of wildlife, particularly during the dry season when animals gather in large numbers to drink. When the rains arrive, the landscape transforms into a haven for birdlife, with flamingos and other species flocking to the flooded pans.

After our first taste of Etosha, we return to the lodge with time to freshen up before dinner.

We settle in for the next three nights at the beautiful Etosha Oberland Lodge, set on a private reserve amongst ancient mopane trees. Here, we’ll enjoy a perfect blend of comfort and wilderness—relaxing by the infinity pool, taking in sweeping savannah views, and unwinding as wildlife gathers at nearby waterholes. Evenings are a highlight, with delicious dinners, glowing sunsets and the sounds of the African night around us.
