Notice
Activity Level:
This tour is designed for travellers with a moderate level of fitness who enjoy cultural experiences, river cruising and exploring fascinating towns and villages at a comfortable pace. We'll cruise the mighty Mekong River, discover colourful floating communities, bustling local markets, historic temples and traditional villages while travelling through Vietnam and Cambodia. Travellers should be comfortable walking for extended periods on some sightseeing days, negotiating uneven footpaths, village tracks, market areas and temple steps while maintaining the group's pace. Boarding and disembarking the river cruise vessel, local boats and coaches requires good mobility, and riverbanks can occasionally be steep or slippery depending on seasonal water levels. There are no lifts onboard the ship, so travellers must be confident using stairs throughout the cruise.
Activity Factors:
✔ Regular guided walking tours through towns, villages and local markets
✔ Walking on uneven village paths and market areas
✔ Temple steps and occasional uneven surfaces
✔ Boarding and disembarking the Mekong river cruise vessel independently
✔ Regular use of stairs onboard the cruise ship (no lifts available)
✔ Boarding and disembarking local boats and coaches independently
✔ Riverbanks that may be steep or slippery depending on water levels
✔ Warm and humid tropical climate
✔ Extended periods standing during sightseeing and cultural experiences
✔ Independent luggage handling when required
✔ Full-day sightseeing on several days
✘ No compulsory hiking or trekking
✘ No sustained steep climbs
✘ No technically challenging terrain
Additional Meal Allowance:
Breakfast is included daily, together with all meals during our luxurious seven-night Mekong River cruise. While cruising, you'll also enjoy complimentary international wines and local beers served with lunch and dinner. Throughout the land touring, several additional meals are included, leaving only a small number of opportunities to dine independently while exploring Siem Reap, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City. As a general guide, allow approximately USD8–15 for a casual lunch and USD15–25 for dinner at a local restaurant. Vietnam and Cambodia offer excellent value for money, although premium restaurants, hotel dining and alcoholic beverages will naturally cost a little more. For comfortable budgeting, we recommend allowing approximately USD350 per person for meals not included, together with coffees, drinks, snacks and incidental treats throughout the tour. Travellers wishing to enjoy premium dining experiences, regular cocktails or additional fine wines while ashore may wish to allow a little extra.
Tipping:
Tipping is customary throughout Vietnam and Cambodia and forms an important part of recognising the service provided by local guides, drivers, hotel staff, porters, onboard cruise crew and other tourism professionals. Tipping has been included in our charter cruise, and to make things simple and stress-free for our pre/post land arrangements, Sisterhood Womens Travel operates a group tipping kitty. At the beginning of the tour, each traveller contributes to the kitty, which is managed by your Sisterhood Tour Hostess. Tips are then distributed throughout the land portion of the journey to local guides, drivers, hotel staff, porters, and other service providers on your behalf. This means you won't need to worry about carrying cash or deciding when and how much to tip, allowing you to simply relax and enjoy your holiday. The estimated contribution to the Sisterhood tipping kitty for this tour is USD 40 per person. The final amount will be confirmed in your final travel documentation.
Seasonal Note about Charter Cruise:
Please note that the Tonle Sap Lake usually experiences high water levels from late August to November. During this period, ships are generally able to navigate across the lake from/to Siem Reap. The low water season usually follows, from mid-November/early December through late August. During this time, when navigation across the lake is not possible, we provide a comfortable, air-conditioned coach transfer from/to Siem Reap, with an approximate journey time of 5-6 hours. Important note: Water levels on the Tonle Sap Lake are subject to natural fluctuations and may change without notice. Should the Port Authorities advise of any operational changes, we will promptly inform all guests and provide the latest available updates.
Accommodation Note:
Twin Share Accommodation
As the Toum Tiou 1 is an exclusive charter boat providing a personal small group environment, twin share accommodation is reserved for friends travelling together. For the comfort and privacy of all travellers, we are unable to offer our usual "Willing to Share" room matching service on this particular journey. If you wish to book a twin share cabin, both travellers must be travelling companions and book together. Single cabins are available in limited numbers and are subject to availability.
