Broome - Kununurra (D)

A morning free before our early afternoon flight to Kununurra where upon arrival and time permitting we'll start our adventure with a visit to Mirima National park, also known as Hidden Valley, a mini version of the Bungle Bungles.

Tonight we enjoy a welcome dinner, a great way to start our Kimberley adventure.

Overnight - Lake Argyle Resort

Day 3 - Friday 23 September 2022

Keep National Park / Durack Homestead / Ord River (B,D)

This morning we drive across the border to the Keep River National Park in the Northern Territory. This area is home to geological wonders, billabongs and ancient Aboriginal rock art.  The sandstone structures here are often likened to the Bungle Bungles in WA.  After morning tea we head back to visit the historic Durack Homestead museum (built in the 1880's by the famous Durack family) where you'll have a fascinating insight into the lives of the the Argyle's pastoral pioneers.  We return to our accommodation for lunch (own cost) and a rest before enjoying an informative cruise down the Ord River back to Kununurra, spotting crocodiles and birdlife along the way.  Later we check into our accommodation in Kununurra for our two night stay.

Overnight -  The Cambridge, Kununurra

Day 4 - Saturday 24 September 2022

El Questro Station and Emma Gorge (B)

Today we travel along the Gibb River Road to El Questro Station and Zebedee Hot Springs. It’s time for a dip before visiting the Station on the Pentecost River. This is a beautiful area of the Kimberley, a must see. Later we continue to Emma Gorge which is hidden within the fiery red of El Questro's Cockburn Ranges. Later we return to Kununurra after a spectacular day in the Kimberley. (Emma Gorge Difficulty) - To the half way point the first part of this trail is classed as relatively easy with some sections of broken rock and riverbed. From that point it then becomes more difficult - It is a 3 hour return walk).  Later we return to our accommodation with dinner at leisure tonight.

Overnight -  The Cambridge, Kununurra

Day 5 - Sunday 25 September 2022

Kununurra - Halls Creek (B,D)

An early morning start fo those who have booked the Bungle Bungle flight, you'll be given a brief the night before with pick up time etc.

Departing Kununurra, we head to Warmun for a morning tea stop. From here we travel to the town of Halls Creek, situated in the heart of the Kimberley. Halls Creek is the gateway to a range of world renowned natural attractions, one being the China Wall, which we visit tomorrow. But for now we explore the town and settle into our accommodation and regroup later for dinner.

Overnight - Kimberley Hotel, Halls Creek

Day 6 - Monday 26 September 2022

Halls Creek - China Wall - Fitzroy Crossing (B,D)

We start the day with a trip to old Halls Creek. This is a very significant place. It is the site of the first gold discovery in Western Australia and where the WA gold rushes began. In 1885 Charles Hall found a 28 ounce nugget. Men (very few women) soon streamed into the interior in search of their fortune. Also we check out “China Wall”. China Wall is a natural vein of sub-vertical white quartz rising up to 6 metres above the surrounding country in places. This striking formation transects the country for many kilometres, rising high out of the ground and then disap-pearing back into the earth again. Later we enjoy a stop at Mary River for an afternoon cuppa and then we continue to our evening stop, which is Fitzroy Crossing.

Overnight - Fitzroy River Lodge - (Ensuited Safari Tents)

Day 7 - Tuesday 27 September 2022

Geikie Gorge Cruise / Prison Tree

This morning, we take part in a cruise along the glorious Danggu Geikie Gorge, carved by the Fitzroy River through an ancient limestone barier reef 250 million years ago.  We then continue our travels to Derby, stopping to see the famous "Prison Tree"on the way.  Derby calls itself the "Home of the Boab Tree" and boabs are used as street trees to give the town a special character.  Derby's claim to fame is having the highest tides of any Australian port.  11m (36fee) of tidal difference means there is an enourmous amount of water rushing in and out every 6 hours.  We'll visit the jetty before checking in to our accommodation for the night.

Overnight - Spinifex Hotel, Derby

Day 8 - Wednesday 28 September 2022

Derby - Broome (B,D)

This morning, we head out to visit the amazing Windjana Gorge - a 3.5km gorge carved out of the Napier Range by the Lennard River.  The walls on both sides of Windjana Gorge are 30-100 metres high and the Gorge is over 100 metres wide.  We spend time here marvelling at the raw beauty before continuing onto Broome arriving early afternoon.  We'll enjoy a sunset fish and chips dinner tonight on the iconic Cable Beach.

Overnight - Kimberley Sands, Broome

Day 9 - Thursday 29 September 2022

Horizontal Falls Optional Tour / Broome sightseeing (B)

For those not taking the optional Horizontal Day Tour, today is all about Broome. We have a town tour before we can explore this pearling town. Shop for pearls in Chinatown; see dinosaur footprints and birdwatch in Roebuck Bay or we can stroll through the famous Broome markets.
