Itinerary

Day 1 - Sunday 31 July 2022

Melbourne - Kununurra (D)

Welcome to Sisterhood Womens Travel.  Meet your Sisterhood Hostess and fellow travellers at the Melbourne Airport for our flight to Kununurra in Western Australia. Sit back and enjoy the flight as we fly over the vast Australian Outback.  Upon our arrival we'll be met by our Kimberley tour team.

We start our adventure with a visit to Mirima National park, also known as Hidden Valley, a mini version of the Bungle Bungles.

Later we head to our accommodation and meet & greet with our fellow passengers. Later tonight enjoy a welcome dinner, a perfect start to our Kimberley adventure.

Overnight - Lake Argyle Resort (ensuited cabins)

Day 2 - Monday 1 August 2022

Lake Argyle - Helicopter - Kununurra (B,D)

We will be sightseeing from the air this morning with Helicopter flights of Lake Argyle and the surrounding area. From up here we see the vast expansion of the “Lake” in all her splendour. We take a tour of the “Durack Homestead” - a slice of iconic Australian history. The magnificent homestead was originally built in 1895 by the Durack family on Argyle Downs Station (now mostly submerged by the lake). We soak up the atmosphere and the beauty of the region that is the Kimberley, before enjoying our evening meal.

Overnight -  Cambridge Resort Kununurra (ensuited motel room)

Day 3 - Tuesday 2 August 2022

El Questro Station and Emma Gorge (B)

Today we travel along the Gibb River Road to El Questro Station and Zebedee Hot Springs. It’s time for a dip before visiting the Station on the Pentecost River. This is a beautiful area of the Kimberley, a definite must see.

Later we continue to Emma Gorge which is hidden within the fiery red of El Questro's Cockburn Ranges. Afterwards, we'll return to Lake Argyle and enjoy a cruise down the Ord River spotting crocodiles and birdlife before reaching the lower end of the river.  Returning to Kununurra after a spectacular day in the Kimberley.

(Emma Gorge Difficulty: To the half way point the first part of this trail is classed as relatively easy with some sections of broken rock and riverbed. From that point it then becomes more difficult. (It is a 2 hour return walk).

Overnight -  Cambridge Resort Kununurra (ensuited motel room)

Day 4 - Wednesday 3 August 2022

Kununurra - Halls Creek - China Wall(B,D)

This morning, for those who purchased the optional Bungle Bungles fixed wing flight you'll enjoy the spectacular from the air.

Departing Kununurra, we head to Warmun for a morning tea stop. From here we travel to the town of Halls Creek, situated in the heart of the Kimberley. Halls Creek is the gateway to a range of world renowned natural attractions, one being the China Wall, which we visit tomorrow. But for now we explore the town and settle into our accommodation and regroup later for dinner.

Overnight Kimberley Hotel Halls Creek (ensuited motel room)

Day 5 - Thursday 4 August 2022

Halls Creek - China Wall - Fitzroy Crossing (B,D)

We start the day with a trip to old Halls Creek. This is a very significant place. It is the site of the first gold discov-ery in Western Australia and where the WA gold rushes began. In 1885 Charles Hall found a 28 ounce nugget. Men (very few women) soon streamed into the interior in search of their fortune.

We'll then visit “China Wall” a natural vein of sub-vertical white quartz rising up to 6 metres above the surrounding country in places. This striking formation transects the country for many kilometres, rising high out of the ground and then disappearing back into the earth again.

Later we enjoy a stop at Mary River for an afternoon cuppa before continuing onto Fitzroy Crossing.

Overnight Fitzroy River Lodge (ensuited safari tents)

Day 6 - Friday 5 August 2022

Tunnel Creek National Park and Windjana Gorge (B,L,D)

Departing Fitzroy Crossing, we travel towards Tunnel Creek. Tunnel Creek National Park covers 91 hectares in the Napier Range, a range that can also be seen at Windjana Gorge. The main feature of the park is the 750 metre tunnel that a creek has worn through the Napier Range. The tunnel is the oldest cave system in Western Australia. It became famous in the late 1800s. Aboriginal leader and "outlaw" Jandamarra (better known as "Pigeon") was using the "Cave of Bats" as his hideout. We explore the tunnel and its mysteries before making our way to Windjana Gorge. Windjana Gorge is a 3.5 km gorge, carved out of the Napier Range by the Lennard River. The walls on both sides of Windjana Gorge are 30 to 100 metres high, and the gorge is over 100 metres wide. It's here we investigate this wonderful area. Later we travel along part of the Gibb River Road to our accommodation.

Overnight King Sound Resort Hotel Derby (ensuited motel)

Day 7 - Saturday 6 August 2022

Derby - Broome (B,D)

We head towards Broome today, but first we visit Derby and the Famous Prison Tree. Derby's claim to fame is having the highest tides of any Australian port. 11 m (36 feet) of tidal difference means there is an enormous amount of water rushing in and out every 6 hours. Derby calls itself the "Home of the Boab Tree". Boabs are used as street trees and give the town a special character. We check out the jetty before making our way to Broome. In the afternoon we head to Cable Beach and enjoy dinner and the magnificent sunset.

Overnight - Mercure Broome (ensuite room)

Day 8 - Sunday 7 August 2022

Broome sightseeing (B)

Today is all about Broome. We have a town tour before we can explore this pearling town. Shop for pearls in Chinatown; see dinosaur footprints and birdwatch in Roebuck Bay or we can stroll through the famous Broome markets.

Whatever you fancy, Broome will captivate you.

Overnight - Mercure Broome (ensuite room)

Day 9 - Monday 8 August 2022

Broome sightseeing (B,D)

A free day to enjoy other optional activities like a day trip to Cape Leveque, a flight over Horizontal Falls, Camel Ride at sunset or a visit to the Willie Creek Pearl Farm. (all activities are subject to availability - please contact Sisterhood Central prior to departure for pricing and availability).
Tonight, we'll regroup in the evening for our farewell dinner.  Time to reminisce with new friends about great memories shared.

Overnight - Mercure Broome (ensuite room)

Day 10 - Tuesday 9 August 2022

After a relaxing breakfast this morning, check out and transfer to the airport for our flight back home to Melbourne. What an amazing Outback adventure we've shared.  We thank you for travelling with Sisterhood Womens Travel and look forward to welcoming you back!
