Notice

 The Fraser Island great walk is mostly moderate to easy going. Full day walks average about 17km with 5-7 hours walking each day. The walking is over mostly flat, well-walked paths and bush tracks.  A good level of fitness is required for this tour.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Saturday 16 July 2022

Melbourne - Hervey Bay

Welcome to Sisterhood Womens Travel.  Meet your Tour Hostess and fellow travellers at the Melbourne Aiport for your flight to Hervey Bay.  The afternoon is free to take a stroll along Hervey Bay's picturesque Esplanade and take in the sights.

Day 2 - Sunday 17 July 2022

Hervey Bay - Fraser Island (B,L)

An early start after breakfast in a local cafe with a transfer to ferry terminal. 

Cruise via ferry over to the island. The walking on the Fraser Island Great walk commences at stunning Lake McKenzie and continues via Basin Lake and Central Station all the way across to Eurong Beach.

Walking: Easy to Moderate / 16km / 6 Hrs

Overnight: Eurong Beach Resort in ensuite rooms (or similar)

Day 3 - Monday 18 July 2022

Fraser Island (B,L)

This section of the Fraser Island Great Walk track includes Lake Wabby, a fabulous place for a swim. Then onwards to One Tree Rocks and Hammerstone Sandblow. Fraser Island is a bird lover’s paradise with over 240 species recorded in the area. The final stretch is along the 75-mile beach back to Eurong.

Walking: Moderate / 18km / 6–7 Hrs

Overnight: Eurong Beach Resort in ensuite rooms (or similar)

Day 4 - Tuesday 19 July 2022

Fraser Island (B,L)

A rest day today with a  Full Day Beach Tour (tide permitting)  

The full day tour includes: 

75-Mile Beach - Fraser Island’s beach highway, Eli Creek - wade through the shallow waters or float downstream towards the Coral Sea, Maheno Shipwreck - see the famous rustic ruins that were once a luxury cruise liner. Washed ashore in 1935, it is now a photographer's paradise. The Pinnacles - be amazed by these spectacularly technicoloured sand cliffs and the Dreamtime tale of how they were formed, Champagne Pools - Fraser Island’s very own, unique and natural Jacuzzi and Indian Head - the Island’s most easterly point that offers magnificent views of the surrounding ocean and beaches.

Day 5 - Wednesday 20 July 2022

Fraser Island (B,L)

The Fraser Island Great Walk is diverse and no more so than today as we head through the Valley of the Giants where you’ll see massive trees with huge buttressed roots. Marvel at giant satinays and tallowwood trees. Note: on many days on this Fraser Island Great walk you’ll see an extraordinary array of buttress-rooted trees, strangler figs, rare primitive cycads and huge satinays.

Walking: Easy to Moderate / 16km / 7 Hrs

Day 6 - Thursday 21 July 2022

Fraser Island (B,L)

Today begins with a drive down the 75-mile beach to the small settlement of Dilli Village. Hike via Lakes Boomanjin, Benaroon and Birrabeen to Central Station.

Walking: Moderate / 21kms / 7–8 hrs

Overnight: Kingfisher Bay Resort Hotel in ensuite rooms (or similar)

Day 7 - Friday 22 July 2022

Fraser Island (B,L)

Today is a more relaxing day, with a drive to Lake McKenzie. Spend some time swimming before walking back to the resort via McKenzie’s Jetty observing historic relics of the commando school. Today we deviate from the Fraser Island Great walk to find our way to Kingfisher Bay Resort via the historic old Tramline track.

Walking: Easy to Moderate / 16km / 5 Hrs

Day 8 - Saturday 23 July 2022

Fraser Island - Hervey Bay - Home (B)

This morning after breakfast we take the ferry mid morning back to Hervey Bay and transfer to the airport for our flight home arriving late afternoon.  Thank you for travelling with Sisterhood Womens Travel and we look forward to welcoming you back for your next adventure.
