Optional Sunrise Trek around the base of Uluru: (approx 12km)

Trek around the full base of Uluru and explore the most profound and culturally significant monolith in Australia. We will meet approximately one hour before sunrise at the entrance to the accommodation at Ayers Rock Resort to begin the journey into Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.  Then after arriving at the base of Uluru, we will begin your sunrise trek around the 12 kilometre base trail and embrace the culture, geology and environment that is the essence of this amazing monolith.  Along the trail we will witness sunrise, visit waterholes and the rock art sites of the ancients and learn of Uluru’s cultural significance to the Anangu (local Aboriginal) people. Take time out to enjoy your picnic outback breakfast as we listen to the variety of desert noises from the surrounding environment.  As we make our way around the base, our local guide will tell a number of stories associated with prominent Tjukurpa (Creation stories). From the Tjukurpa of Liru (poisonous snake) and Kuniya (woma python) learnt along the Kuniya Walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole to the story of the Mala people heard along the Mala Walk to Kantju Gorge, this full base walk gives the opportunity to truly immerse yourself in the beautiful culture and history of this amazing place.

Cost - $205.00 (subject to change)  Please advise at the time of booking.

Day 2 - Saturday 7 May 2022

Uluru (B,S)

An early start before dawn we will travel towards the iconic Uluru. Its vast shape rises from the sand dunes in the early dawn light highlighting its magical presence.  Our guide will take us to a special location to watch the sun rise over this amazing monolith.  There we'll learn the creation stories of Liru (poisonous snake) and Kuniya (woman python) and hear about the Mala people.  After a picnic breakfast we'll visit Mutitjulu Waterhole and then drive around the base of Uluru before returning to the resort.

This afternoon we will visit Kata Tjuta, one of the most dramatic rock formations in the world.  We'll walk through Walpa Gorge and learn the history and myths surrounding this spiritual place as we listen to the wind (Walpa) far above and view the scale of the rock walls surrounding us.

Later this evening we will experience the famous Field of Lights.   As darkness falls we will view 50,000 glass spheres gently coming to life.  We'll enjoy panoramic views of the lights from atop a dune where we'll enjoy canapes and drinks. As the sun sets we will also have majestic views of Uluru.  We will then have the opportunity to take a walk through the field for a different view of the lights.  A magical nighth awaits!
