A day of Ayurvedic spa treatments sets the scene for a layback warm n fuzzy adventure on the beautiful island country of Sri Lanka. A chill out in Negombo melts us blissfully into life on the road as we head north to Anuradhapura!  We stop along the way at an elephant orphanage and pop in to witness local hand weavers honing their craft.  We are loving Sri Lanka already!

Sri Lankan religion is 70 percent Buddhist, many make pilgrimages to the holy city of Anuradhapura to the Stupa and Sir Maya Bhodi Tree. We are accepted at the Stupa with a sense of belonging.  The calmness of their faith washes over us.  Next up it’s Dambulla.  What an amazing experience for SWT to be able to support the Pohoranwewa Primary School.  We visit one of the poorest areas of this beautiful country – the government provides uniforms for the children (prep to year 11) but that’s it.  Parents can’t afford to purchase stationery and the school grounds are bare. Thanks to SWT this school will soon have brand new play equipment.  Their gratitude when we visit is beyond words.

Our surprises continue in Dambulla where we face our fears, and our fitness to climb 1200 vertical steps to the top of Sigiriya Rock.  This bunch of sisters are absolute legends. We pile into jeeps for a safari in Minnerlya National Park,  famous for its herds of wild elephants. Our stay is completed with a visit to a local village. We head for the hills, to Kandy and slightly cooler climate.  This quaint but lively city is a buss with buses, tuk tuks and local life.  It is famous for its golden roofed Temple of the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.  We shop, play sari dress ups and visit the Royal Botanical Gardens. Next stop Nuwara Eliya known as ‘Little England’ for tea tasting and in insight into life on a tea plantation.  Finally we board one of the most scenic railways in the world to Ella!    Aaaaahhhhh – just wonderful. We enjoy some downtime in the mountain village of Ella.  These sisters are up for anything that comes our way.  The fun continues in Galls as the sunsets on our wonderful adventure.

Sisterhood will be returning to Sri Lanka in 2025.  If you enjoyed hearing about our adventures, come see for yourself!
