It’s early morning on a wet and wintry September day. 14 intrepid sisters meet, all with the same intention. To head to Southern Africa in search of the Big 5, travelling with excitement, laughter, caring and camaraderie. This energetic bunch wastes no time in ticking off the big five (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhinoceros)…. And so much more. We base ourselves at Kapama River Lodge and private Game Reserve in South Africa. We are totally spoilt and indulged for two days of absolute luxury and extraordinary game viewing. Morning game drive, eat, rest, be spoilt…. Repeat!
We hit the road bound for Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, where we while away the hours on the mighty Zambezi River, and we check out the majestic Falls themselves, some even opting for a bird's eye view. Culture abounds as we enjoy high tea at the world-renowned Victoria Falls Hotel, followed by a Boma dinner where there might be drumming and audience participation! Next, we head to Chobe National Park, Botswana. Thank you, Mother Nature, for giving us an experience we will never forget. They say that no two game drives are ever the same…. They are so right!
The civilisation and sophistication of Cape Town is next on our itinerary, and it doesn’t disappoint. We visit Robben Island and pay tribute to Nelson Mandela, we ride the iconic cable car to the top of Table Mountain before heading to the southernmost point on the African Continent – the Cape of Good Hope. Delightful is our ‘down day’ in Cape Town, where we shop, have lunch, and watch the world go by.
Thinking we have packed so much into our adventure, we are humbled and surprised – some in fact comment we have saved the best until last – a tuk tuk tour of Soweto. Incredibly insightful and safe, this tour is a must for all humankind. We see incredible wildlife, we enjoy cosmopolitan cities, we dine on fine food and wine, all with wonderful new friends to share it with. Thank you, my travelling sisters…. Until next time.
