Weather
Adelaide will generally be cool and damp in June, whilst the surrounding hill region will be possibly frosty. Central Australia will be sunny with cool nights and by the time you reach the Top End, the weather will be dry, warm and sunny.
What to Pack
You’ll need a bit of everything for this trip but be mindful that you need to manage your luggage yourself.
Due to the varying temperatures as you travel north, you’ll mostly need a combination of warm but casual clothing at the start of the trip including a jacket/coat and light raincoat/poncho, and as you travel north, you’ll gradually need light clothing, swimwear, sunscreen, waterbottle etc for the warmth of the Top End.
For the Ghan - the temperature on the train stays a consistent 22 degrees, which can feel cold compared with outside temperatures. You may want to bring a light jacket or cardigan. It is also recommended that you wear sensible shoes for walking between carriages as you may experience some swaying and movement as the train traverses some of the more remote areas of the country. Smart casual attire is suggested.
While on board The Ghan, you can access one piece of hand luggage plus a garment bag, cabin bag or briefcase per person, and store this within your cabin (include medication if you require it).
Checked luggage cannot be accessed during your rail journey and will be stored on a separate part of the train.
The Ghan
Food and Drink - Gold Class includes hearty breakfasts, two-course lunches and three-course dinners. You may also choose to complement your meal with the selection of premium wines and beverages, all included in your fare.
Your cabin - For Gold Single, you’ll have a compact sleeper cabin featuring a bed that converts to a seat by day and shared shower/toilet facilities located at the end of the carriage. These large bathrooms include a shower, basin and toilet and have plenty of space.
For Gold Twin, you’ll have a comfortable sleeper cabin featuring upper and lower sleeping berths that convert to a three-seater lounge by day, with a private compact ensuite featuring a shower and toilet.
Internet
Most of the hotels in the itinerary will have guest WiFi.
On the Ghan - Wi-Fi availability is dependent on mobile network coverage, and as you travel through some remote locations it may not always be available.
Travel Insurance
It is mandatory for travellers to have comprehensive travel insurance; please ensure you have provided Sisterhood Womens Travel with a copy of your policy including 24/7 Emergency Contact Number.

Please make sure you download WhatsApp onto your phone prior to departure.
