Sisterhood’s third visit to the land of fire & ice once again showed us the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland, capturing both the raw power of nature and the joy of shared adventure. Seriously, if nature is your thing, Iceland’s natural wonders are dramatic with volcanic plains, lava fields, glaciers, waterfalls, black sand beaches, and more!
Bathing in geothermal springs is a part of life here, and we took many opportunities to soak in them. Even when the weather was freezing, the locals assured us that this was the best time to take off our clothes. The sprint out of the pool was questionable, but we enjoyed the dichotomy of deliciously warm (even hot) water whilst the wind was howling. But overall, we were blessed by the weather gods when we needed to be outdoors.
Waterfalls & rivers thundered down with an incredible amount of water, even in the Autumn. Our guide made sure to show us places that weren’t on the itinerary, such as the execution site of Agnes, made famous in Hannah Kent’s best-selling novel, “Burial Rites”, and told us many stories of Vikings, gnomes & ogres.
Unfortunately, as sometimes happens, one of the women had a fall that resulted in a broken arm that required surgery back home. In true sisterhood spirit, the girls shared suitable wardrobe items, packed her bags, and offered support over the next few days as arrangements were made to get her home. It just goes to show the importance of travel insurance and why you choose to travel with Sisterhood- we never leave a sister behind! We all wish her well on her road to recovery.
