Entry into Morocco
Australian passport holders are allowed to visit Morocco for 90 days visa-free.
Please ensure that your passport has at least 6 months' validity from your return date left on it.
Please continue to monitor www.smartraveller.gov.au for any changes to entry requirements.
Standard of Accommodation – ** Very Important to Note **
Throughout your Moroccan adventure, as you will be staying in a variety of different styles of accommodation ranging from riads to hotels, due to the size of some of our accommodation, you can expect that not all rooms will be the same. Your tour hostess will do her best to be fair with room allocations.
Weather in Morocco
Morocco’s North African location means that most of the country enjoys warm weather all year round. Travelling during October you can expect average temperatures to be low 20’s with cooler temperatures at night and when in the desert and any mountainous regions. The nearby Sahara Desert means it never gets too cold, but you'll get differences in weather depending on where you go. As you move up to the High Atlas Mountains, you may experience cooler temperatures, and with the sea breeze, also in Casablanca and Essaouira.
Currency in Morocco
The currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham, which cannot usually be bought outside Morocco. You can take USD or EUR to exchange, but nowadays with most towns having access to ATMs, it is recommended to withdraw cash to travel with. You can take a Travel Money or a personal credit card, which can be used for most of your purchases. In the souks and markets, local cash will be the preferred method and the better way to go unless you are purchasing big-ticket items.
Bargaining
Moroccans love to bargain, so be prepared to haggle. If you successfully agree to a price, it is rude to then refuse, so please keep this in mind when doing your negotiations. Think of how much you’d be prepared to pay for any items (in AUD), then start below your limit. If you are buying big-ticket items, ask for the current paperwork for a Tax Refund that can be processed at Casablanca Airport.
Modesty whilst travelling
Even though Morocco is a Muslim country, it is one of the most westernised. In saying that, dressing modestly is recommended. Tops with sleeves, no low-cut shirts or dresses, and long pants or ¾ pants are preferable. It’s always a good idea to take along a pashmina to act as a scarf, wrap or modesty covering when the occasion is called for. Do not draw attention to yourself and leave any valuable jewellery at home. You will be visiting areas where there may be some poverty, so please be mindful.
What to Pack
Travel for comfort rather than for style. Comfortable walking shoes a must. A hat and sunscreen, bathers, layering clothes (for any change in weather), a lightweight jacket, torch (for your desert stay), a roll of toilet paper (for when travelling), a pashmina for multi-purpose, modesty and warmth. Also, bring your swimsuit; many of your hotels have pools.
Tipping
Tipping is expected and you can expect to tip almost every person who assists you. From porters at the airport, hotel porters, taxi drivers, guides, restaurant waiters, toilet attendants etc. Sisterhood Womens Travel tipping system on all Group Tours involves passengers contributing to a kitty which is paid to the tour hostess at the beginning of the tour, who then distributes it daily to service providers on your behalf. This avoids the need for you to consider individual tipping situations daily throughout your trip. The estimated amount for your tour is USD200.00. Please ensure you have this amount (in small denominations) to your hostess upon joining your tour.
Long Bus Drives
Whilst travelling, your transportation will be in a comfortable 16-seater Mercedes Sprinter. You can expect some long drives so make sure you prepare yourself. Bring along a book, music or journal to make the journey more comfortable and pleasant. There will be regular toilet stops (bring your own roll of toilet paper) and some of them will be very basic (even drop toilets). Even though some of your drives will be long, the scenery will be interesting and varied.
Luggage
Please keep your luggage to a minimum. Do not take what you cannot handle yourself. Some of your accommodation may require you to take your luggage upstairs. Where available, the hotel staff will assist (for a tip) so please keep this in mind when packing. Your luggage will usually travel in the back of the vehicle, so a soft suitcase is preferable.
Moroccan Belly
It is recommended to take with you some diarrhoea medication in case you come down with Moroccan Belly. It is also a good idea to bring along some hydrolyte as well for dehydration purposes. For any other health/medical concerns with regards to travelling to Morocco, please consult your GP.
Travel Insurance
It is mandatory for travellers to have comprehensive travel insurance; please ensure you have provided Sisterhood Womens Travel with a copy of your policy, including a 24/7 Emergency Contact Number.
WhatsApp Group
Please make sure you download the WhatsApp onto your phone prior to departure. This App will be your communication tool whilst on tour and your tour hostess will contact you prior to departure to set you up in the Morocco WhatsApp group. It’s also a lovely way to remain in touch with friends upon your return.
Changes to Itinerary
We do our best to give Sisters an enjoyable, trouble-free tour experience but, occasionally, even the best-laid plans can go array. Should any changes occur, we ask that you maintain a positive, upbeat and flexible attitude.
