King Island delivered on all fronts - spectacular scenery, a rich history in Farming and Fishing and a tragic history for Shipwrecks. We toured the Island from top to bottom and East to West and met engaging and fascinating locals who shared their stories with us. It was such a great experience to meet two farmers who run successful businesses - Andrew Raff who has a Stud Farm which started in Queensland in the 60's and then moved the whole operation to King Island as a result of ongoing droughts in Queensland. The Clemens Family have been farming for four generations and are successful Beef Farmers and here we were hosted by Thor and his wife Amy who cooked beef four ways for us. Our tour focused on food, history and scenery where we felt fully immersed in Island Life. With just 1600 inhabitants, King Island boasts a gentle, calm and clean lifestyle where everyone waves, chats and has time. The small communities around the island embrace visitors and are proud to showcase their island and its' produuce. We relisehd the cheese tastings at King Island Dairy and sampled locally brewed craft beers at King island Brewery. Local chefs cooked beef, lamb, pork, chciken, fish and crayfish for us as we rolled around the island with our wonderful driver guide Ian. This is a place to relax, reset and enjoy gastronomy and hospitality in full. Our group gelled like glue and we laughed, shared stories and embraced the essence of Sisterhood for our magnicent five days.
