The sisters arrived in Africa and embarked on a three-week safari journey through Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar. We had the privilege of learning about giraffes and visiting the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Centre. We then visited the Children's Garden Centre, a home and school for orphaned and disadvantaged children. We dropped off bags of educational supplies from Australia for the children; they were filled with joy and put on a performance of song and dance for us.

Like many first-time safari-goers, the sisters had a checklist of the 'Big 5' animals - elephant, rhino, buffalo, leopard, and lion - that they hoped to see. Fortunately, luck was on our side, and we spotted the Big 5 not just once, but multiple times.

Our bright-eyed early risers were raring to roll on each morning safari, where we were treated to stunning African sunrises and unforgettable moments of nature unfolding before our eyes.

Each safari was a different experience where we witnessed a plethora of wildlife, including prides of lions, dazzles of zebras, towers of giraffes, crashes of rhinos, memories of elephants, bloats of hippos, cackles of hyenas, and flamboyances of flamingos.

The breathtaking African sunsets, with their kaleidoscopic colours of red, orange, and pink, left us awestruck, while the welcoming smiles singing Jambo Bwana  and dancing at each lodge we stayed at, left our spirits lifted.

Our knowledgeable guides steered our 4WD through bumpy, unmade roads that felt like rollercoaster rides in each National Park, guaranteeing our wildlife adventure included the ultimate African massage every single day.

During our visit to a Maasai village, we learnt about their traditional way of life. Our journey through Amboseli National Park was a feast for the eyes, with huge herds of elephants and sneak peeks of Mt Kilimanjaro. We stood in awe of the Great Rift Valley's grandeur and Ngorongoro's beauty, and roamed the Serengeti's sweeping plains with a magical balloon ride at sunrise.

Post-safari, we touched down in Zanzibar, where we unwound exploring Stone Town's historic alleyways, tracking Red colobus monkeys in Jozani Forest, and sailing on a traditional dhow as the sun dipped below the horizon.

Our African adventure brought a gaggle of girls together as strangers who shared stories, witnessed incredible wildlife, experienced the beauty of the African people, sang, danced and left with newfound friends and memories to last a lifetime. With much love and gratitude sisters it was an awesome trip.

"There is something about safari life that makes you forget all your sorrows and feel as if you had drunk half a bottle of champagne — bubbling over with heartfelt gratitude for being alive." — Karen Blixen
