Not one of the travelling ‘sisters’ had been to the Cook Islands before, but going to a Polynesian island between Fiji and Tahiti was as exotic as we hoped. A beautiful sunset on arrival, we relished the balmy warmth, the palm trees and the expansive ocean at our feet. We woke to an early bus ride to the local market where we drank from coconuts and bought cotton fashion items suited to the tropics. The week flew by with a wonderful mix of cultural experiences and adventures, fabulous food, sunset cocktails, snorkeling and live music everywhere. A friendly, adventurous group of women, friendships developed early and we were looked after by the welcoming locals with infectious smiles and a joy for life. It was hard to say goodbye finally, as we boarded our New Zealand bound plane. Many of us plan to return to Rarotonga and do it all again!
