Entry into Europe
Please ensure that your passport has at least 6 months validity from your return date left on your passport. At the time of writing, no extra visas are required for entry into Europe for Australian passport holders.
The new European Entry/Exit System (EES) for all non-EU nationals, including Australians, travelling in or out of the Schengen Area is expected to start in October 2025. You will be advised if this comes into effect before your departure.

Continue to monitor www.smartraveller.gov.au for the most up-to-date information.

Weather
Southern Europe is still very pleasant in October. The highest temperatures hover around the mid to high teens mark on average and the evenings will be cool.

What to Pack
With the varying weather at the end of the European summer, being prepared is the way to go and the best way to do this is by layering up. Bring short-sleeved shirts, long-sleeved shirts, cardigans, leggings, skirts, dresses, jeans, trousers and a scarf. Then mix and match your outfits so it’s easy to peel off layers when inside, and it’s just as easy to get them back on when outside if needed. During autumn, the thermometer can drop low enough in the evenings to warrant a sweater or light jacket. Long t-shirts, pants and clothes that you can layer are recommended for the fall months.

Travel for comfort rather than for style.  Comfortable walking shoes are a must.

Currency
Here is what each country uses:
Croatia - Euro (EUR)
Slovenia - Euro (EUR)
Bosnia & Herzegovina - Bosnian Mark (KM or BAM)
Montenegro - Euro (EUR)

ATMs are available and credit cards are widely used in bigger cities. We recommend taking some cash as well, for smaller purchases and for travelling out of larger cities.

Money – general information

Cash may be obtained on arrival at exchange offices, banks or from ATMs. As banks and vendors are very particular, notes should be in good condition (not stained or torn) and recently printed. Cash will be necessary for small purchases, tipping, taxis, personal sightseeing, museums, etc. Do not rely on ATMs to obtain small amounts of local currency as the minimum you are permitted to withdraw may be higher than you actually require. Due to counterfeiting, establishments may be reluctant to accept large bills so we recommend you have lower denominations. A pocket calculator or app will come in handy when making conversions.

Credit cards: Major credit cards are accepted in most major outlets, but shops and restaurants generally require a minimum purchase amount when using them, so they are not appropriate for incidentals such as small purchases, souvenirs, snacks, etc. You may wish to bring more than one card, as some outlets may not accept all types. Due to increasing credit card fraud worldwide, you may be asked to show identification when making a transaction with your credit card.

Tipping
Local tipping is appreciated in the Adriatic countries we'll be visiting.  Sisterhood Womens Travel tipping system involves passengers contributing to a kitty, which is paid to the tour hostess at the beginning of the tour, who then distributes it to service providers on your behalf.  The estimated amount for your tour is EUR 150, and this will be confirmed in your final documentation.

Luggage
Please keep your luggage to a minimum. Do not take what you cannot handle yourself. Where available, the hotel staff will assist with taking your luggage to your room (for a tip) so please keep this in mind when packing.

Health While Travelling
There is always a risk to your health when travelling and it is better to be prepared. It is recommended to take with you some diarrhoea medication in case you come down with a stomach bug. It is also a good idea to bring along some hydrolyte for dehydration purposes. We also recommend Travelan to help protect your stomach from any nasties (available over the counter at any pharmacy). For any other vaccination/health/medical concerns with regards to travelling please consult your GP or visit a Travel Doctor.

Travel Insurance
It is mandatory for travellers to have comprehensive travel insurance; please ensure you have provided Sisterhood Womens Travel with a copy of your policy, including a 24/7 Emergency Contact Number.

WhatsApp Group
Please make sure you download WhatsApp onto your phone prior to departure. This App will be your communication tool whilst on tour and your tour hostess will contact you prior to departure to set you up in your tour WhatsApp group.  It’s also a lovely way to remain in touch with friends upon your return.

Changes to Itinerary
We do our best to give Sisters an enjoyable, trouble-free tour experience, but occasionally, even the best-laid plans can go awry.  We cannot rule out any changes to the itinerary and ask that you maintain a positive, upbeat and flexible attitude.
