Itinerary

Day 1 - Sunday 10 October 2021

Melbourne - Taipei (Meals Inflight, D)

Join your Sisterhood Womans Travel tour hostess and fellow travellers at Melbourne Airport at the designated time for our flight to Taiwan. 

Upon arrivel into Taipei we will be transferred to our hotel for check in. 

The remainder of the day is at leisure to settle in.

Day 2 - Monday 11 October 2021

Taipei (B,L,D)

This morning after breakfast, we head on a full day tour of Taipei City, beginning with a visit to the impressive National Palace Museum and the Martyrs’ Shrine. After a Dim Sum style lunch, we visit CKS Memorial Hall and Longshan Temple before making a photo stop at the Taipei 101 skyscraper. 

Tonight, after a busy day of walking and exploring this city's highlights, we'll enjoy dinner at a local dumpling restaurant. The rest of the evening is at leisure to explore the area if you wish.

Day 3 - Tuesday 12 October 2021

Taipei - Sun Moon Lake (B,L,D)

This morning visit Zhuo Ye Cottage to experience a DIY indigo dyeing followed by a vegetarian lunch at the cottage. Depart Taipei to journey towards the heart of the island to what is arguably Taiwan’s most scenic spot – Sun Moon Lake.  

Sun Moon Lake is a lake in Yuchi Township, Nantou County. It is the largest body of water in Taiwan. The area around the lake is home to the Thao tribe, one of aboriginal tribes of Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake surrounds a tiny island called Lalu. The east side of the lake resembles a sun while the west side resembles a moon, hence the name.

Day 4 - Wednesday 13 October 2021

Sun Moon Lake (B,L,D)

Today we visit the Wen Wu Temple before embarking on a motorboat cruise around the lake for picture perfect views of the area’s beautiful landscapes. We’ll also visit the Holy Monk Shrine, Tze-En Pagoda and the aboriginal village of Tehua. Then take the cable car to Formosan Cultural Village. There will also be some time at leisure, with the option of biking on trails around Sun Moon Lake, listed as one of the 10 most beautiful places to cycle in the world.

Day 5 - Thursday 14 October 2021

Sun Moon Lake (B,L,D)

After breakfast, we proceed to Jin-Du Restaurant for a cooking class to learn how to make traditional Taiwanese cuisine. We will have a chance to visit Taiwanese traditional markets before the cooking class followed by lunch.

Later we visit a famous tea farm to discover all about the process of tea growth and production.

Day 6 - Friday 15 October 2021

Sun Moon Lake - Tainan (B,L,D)

We depart Sun Moon Lake this morning and travel to Tainan. Taiwan’s oldest city and capital until 1887 when Taipei took over, Tainan was originally established as a trading port by the Dutch East India Company. It is renowned for its preservation of traditions and rich folk culture, and you’ll start exploring at the Chihkan Tower and Confucius Temple.

In the afternoon, wander the old streets of the Anping district and view the sunset from Anping Harbour.

Day 7 - Saturday 16 October 2021

Tainan - Kaohsiung (B,L,D)

Heading south to the port city of Kaohsiung this morning where we’ll admire the Dragon & Tiger Tower and the Spring & Autumn Pavilion before paying a visit to Taiwan’s largest monastery, Foguangshan. Lunch here will be a vegetarian feast, before we stroll over to the main shrine, the Buddhist Museum and Great Buddha Land, where we’ll find a 36-metre Buddha watching over a garden of many smaller Buddhas. Finally, we'll see the Martyrs’ Shrine at Shoushan.

Day 8 - Sunday 17 October 2021

Kaohsiung - Kenting National Park (B,L,D)

Today we will travel over to the beach resort of Kenting, gateway to the beautiful Kenting National Park. Consisting of a range of landscapes – low mountains, rolling hills, cliffs and deserts, all fringed by excellent beaches and helped along by a balmy tropical climate, Kenting is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. Kenting is Taiwan's oldest and the southernmost national park on the main island, covering the southernmost area of the Taiwan island along Bashi Channel and has long been one of the most popular tourist destinations in Taiwan.

Day 9 - Monday 18 October 2021

Kenting - Taitung (B,L,D)

Departing Kenting after breakfast & check out, we'll drive along the beautiful east coast to Taitung, admiring the ocean views throughout the journey. We continue to Chihpen, famous for its hot springs. On arrival, our afternoon will be free to relax and bathe in the thermal waters at the hotel.

Tonight’s dinner will be accompanied by a performance of traditional music and dance.

Day 10 - Tuesday 19 October 2021

Taroko National Park (B,L,D)

Today we travel northwards to Hualien, the gateway to the magnificent Taroko National Park. En route there will be a series of stops including Donghe, where we may spot wild monkeys, and the scenic Cisingtan Lake, where we can head out on an optional bike ride on the lakeshore.

Day 11 - Wednesday 20 October 2021

Taroko National Park (B,L,D)

Encompassing sea cliffs, soaring peaks and a famously picturesque gorge, Taroko National Park is home to a huge diversity of features and habitats and shelters a great range of plant and animal species. Today our visits will include the Gorge Gateway, the Eternal Spring Shrine and Swallow Grotto and we'll enjoy a leisurely walk through the beautiful landscapes.

Later we'll stop in at The Garden of Hope Foundation in Hualien city, including guided tour to understand their work for helping disadvantaged women and to experience a DIY Glass Craft class. 

The Garden of Hope Foundation is a non-government, non-profit group established in 1988 to help disadvantaged girls and young women, especially girls caught in the sex industry, survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence, and survivors of human trafficking. Many of their clients have been subjected to more than one form of abuse. 
 
From one halfway house, the services have grown to include shelters and service centers island-wide providing everything from counseling and temporary housing, to employment training, social work and legal aid. Their latest phase of development helps women “go the second mile” with job training, housing aid and emotional support after they leave the shelter.

Day 12 - Thursday 21 October 2021

Taroko - Taipei (B,L,D)

We leave the beautiful national park and on our journey will stop to take photos at Cingshuei Cliff for its beautiful views. Then we visit the Kavalan Whisky Distillery, with the option for a tasting. We return to Taipei via Luodong by highspeed rail and then enjoy a farewell dinner, the perfect opportunity to reflect on our adventures with our fellow sisters.

Day 13 - Friday 22 October 2021

Taipei - Home (B)

This morning is free at leisure before we check out and transfer to the airport for our flight home. 

Sit back, relax and enjoy the inflight entertainment of our airline as we head towards home.
