Day 4 - Tuesday 18 August 2020

Vanuatu Sightseeing (B,L,D)

This morning after breakfast we will be off on a half day tour around Efate Island. First we will visit the National Museum located in the Cultural Centre of Port Vila. This excellent museum in a soaring traditional building is opposite the Parliament House and has a well-displayed collection of traditional artefacts such as tamtam (slit gongs or slit drums), outrigger canoes, ceremonial headdresses, shell jewellery and examples of Lapita and Wusi pottery. There is an interesting photographic display on the unearthing of Chief Roi Mata's burial site. From there we will stop at the WW2 Monument overlooking the town of Port Vila for some scenic photos before we continue to a Chocolate Factory for a guided tour and a tasting.

The highlight of the day will be a visit to a Turtle Sanctuary with a guided tour to see (and touch) 5 month old turtles, then look at older turtles. We will also have the chance to hand feed a 160kg turtle called Big Mama. At this sanctuary there are also other animals such as coconut crabs, snakes and pigs. If you are game, at high tide you can easily swim the stretch of the beach which covers some lovely white sandy spots. BBQ lunch is included at this stop.

Tonight we will be treated at the resort to a Melanesian Night. We will feast on a buffet of traditional Melanesian dishes with Kava tasting and enjoy dance performances by Fatuna Fatuna, one of Vanuatu's most highly respected cultural groups. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture these moments.

Day 5 - Wednesday 19 August 2020

Vanuatu Sightseeing (B,L,D)

Today we will enjoy a half day Iririki Nature Tour. We will start with a short drive to visit the Mele Cascades, Vanuatu's biggest waterfall. This magnificent waterfall comes with a stunning jungle parkland lush with native plants, flowers and wildlife. We will have time to swim in the refreshing waters before continuing on to our second stop, Tanna Coffee. This company supplies coffee to all of the Pacific and was recently rebuilt after being totally destroyed in the recent Cyclone Pam. Here you will learn all about the origins of coffee in Vanuatu including how the plants are harvested and the beans roasted for that perfect cuppa!

Our last stop on our tour will be a visit to a traditional Vanuatu village where we will experience and learn how the people of Vanuatu live. We will be greeted with traditional dancing from villagers of all generations, shown how the locals cultivate their produce, cook their food, sleep and spend their days. This tour will give us a real insight into the life of a Vanuatuan!

Returning to our resort in the afternoon, it is a perfect time to visit the spa, enjoy a snorkel or find a palm tree to laze under..

Tonight we will enjoy an Italian themed dinner by the Infinity Pool and share the beautiful day's experience.

Day 7 - Friday 21 August 2020

Vanuatu Sightseeing (B,L,D)

After breakfast today we will be driven to Hideaway Island for a Marine Park Adventure. Hideaway Island Resort and Marine Sanctuary is a picture perfect tropical island with coral beaches surrounded by turquoise waters. This idyllic Vanuatu island is only a short drive and a ferry trip from Port Vila. Hideaway Island's Marine Sanctuary is one of the few places on Earth where it is possible to hand feed hundreds of 'tame' brilliantly coloured fish right from the beach. As a marine sanctuary, Hideaway Island is the perfect snorkling and dive resort offering many wonderful dive sites near by with excellent facilities.

We will have the chance to snorkel in the crystal clear waters of Hideaway, explore extensive reef systems including a magnificient 80 metre wall covered with multitude of colourful corals and enjoy a boat ride to Coral Gardens situated on Hideaway Islands outer reef. We may even get a chance to send a postcard from their underwater post office.

Lunch will be provided at the nautical style beachfront restaurant and bar.

In the afternoon we will return back to Iririki with the remainder of the day at leisure.

Tonight we will enjoy a cozy woodfired pizza night for our last evening at Iririki Resort.

Day 8 - Saturday 22 August 2020

Port Vila - Tanna Island (B)

This morning we will have an early breakfast before checking out of the resort and being transferred to the airport for our short flight to Tanna Island.

Tanna Island is one of the most southernmost islands in the Vanuatu chain and known for its mighty Mount Yasur, renowned as the world’s most accessible active volcano! But aside from black ash and fiery lava, Tanna has plenty more to offer with sublime secluded beaches and some of Vanuatu's most intriguing traditional village life.

Apart from the fuming, furious Mt Yasur, the landscape features undisturbed rainforests, coffee plantations, mountains, hot springs, blue holes and waterfalls, with some areas formed into marine and wildlife sanctuaries by local chiefs. Kastom is important in traditional villages, where all natural phenomena have a fourth dimension of spirituality and mystique, while strange cargo cults (John Frum and Prince Philip, in particular) still hold sway in some villages.

A visit to Tanna Island is not complete without a visit to Mount Yasur active volcano and we will be treated to a guided night tour adventure and experience the volganic glory at sunset. We will be welcomed by the volcano custodians with custom dancing and a safety briefing followed by a 4WD drive up the steep volcano. Once at the top (yes, we will park on top of a live volcano), we will need to complete the journey by foot with a 10 minute walk up the stairs to the crater reaching the 360 metre peak.

This is sure to be an experience of a lifetime!

Overnight - Rockwater Resort, Tanna Island

Day 9 - Sunday 23 August 2020

Tanna Island Sightseeing (B)

After breakfast at the resort we will head off on a half day guided tour to discover the traditional life on Tanna Island. We will visit Yakel Tribe Custom Village. The original traditional tribe, as in the movie “Tanna” is the village to visit (watching this movie prior to your visit to Vanuatu is highly recommended…)

Here you will find a purity of spirit that has long gone in the modern world; strong women in nothing else than grass skirts; children laughing, running wild up massive trees like they were born from them; men dressed in only their Nambas, thumping the soft ash ground with their powerful legs calling their ancestors. If you are a little jaded from the modern world then the friendliness extended to you at this traditional “Kastom” village will refresh your belief in humanity.

Visit their village, their way of living and their rhythmic dancing with singing….you will never forget them!

The afternoon is free to enjoy the facilities at the resort, go for a swim and relax.

Tonight we will regroup for dinner and celebrate good times with new friends!

Overnight - Rockwater Resort, Tanna Island
