Local tipping is customary in China.  Sisterhood Womens Travel tipping system on many Group Tours involves passengers contributing to a kitty which is  paid to the tour hostess at the beginning of the tour who then distributes it daily to service providers on your behalf. This avoids the need for you to consider individual tipping situations daily throughout your trip. The estimated amount for your tour is USD120 (Not including USD50 for your Century Legend Cruise which is payable direct).  Ths will be confirmed in your final documentation.

TOUR PACE - Medium Paced Tour - This tour is not strenuous but it does include several days with long periods of sightseeing on foot, climbing of stairs and getting in/out of boats will be necessary. Anyone with a good level of fitness should be able to complete the itinerary.

Day 1 - Friday 24 April 2020

Melbourne / Beijing (Meals Inflight)

Join our Sisterhood Tour Hostess and fellow travellers at the Melbourne Airport at your designated time for our flight to Beijing. Sit back, relax and enjoy your Singapore Airlines flight as you head towards China.
 

Day 2 - Saturday 25 April 2020

Beijing

Upon arrival into Beijing, you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel.  The rest of your day is at leisure to explore. 

Tonight you will enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3 - Sunday 26 April 2020

Beijing (B,L,D)

After breakfast you will depart with your guide for Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden Palace. One of the largest and most famous public squares in the world, the Tiananmen Square was named after Tiananmen Gate or “Gate of Heavenly Peace”. The square has great historical significance and bore witness to several important events in China’s history. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987. The palace complex served as the imperial palace for nearly 500 years and was home to 24 Chinese emperors between 1420 and 1911. The Forbidden City features 980 buildings, covers 180 acres, and now houses the Palace Museum.  After your visit enjoy lunch with a local Hutong Family and learn about their daily life. 

You will then have an opportunity to learn about paper-cut with a local craftsman. The paper-cut is one of the folk traditional decorative arts. The Chinese usually use red paper to cut which means energy and good fortune. In Ancient Times, most Chinese women learn this skill and show their finished works by sticking some to their doors and windows during big holidays for decorations and celebrations.

Later we have arranged a Rickshaw Tour through the narrow lanes of the old area of Beijing to experience the traditional way of Beijing people’s lives, followed by a stroll along the famous Houhai lake and bar street. 

Tonight enjoy a traditional Peking dinner with some Chinese wine.

Day 4 - Monday 27 April 2020

Beijing - Great Wall (B,L,D)

Today after breakfast you will head to the famous Great Wall of China.  The Great Wall of China is a series of short walls made of predominantly rammed earth, stone, and wood, which stretch over 21,196 km from Dandong in the east to Lop Lake in the west. It was built thousands of years ago and has undergone many renovations since the 5th century. The Great Wall's initial purpose was to protect the Chinese states and empires from invasions and raids. Later, the wall was used as a border control, and for the encouragement of trade.  After your visit, lunch will be served in the nearby area and there will be some time for jade shopping. Later you'll head to a famous massage shop to enjoy a well earned foot massage. 

Tonight we have included a visit to the amazing Chinese Kung Fu show, which has won many awards followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 5 - Tuesday 28 April 2020

Beijing / Xi'an (B,D)

After breakfast transfer to the train station to board the Bullet Train to Xian. There will be an opportunity to purchase lunch on board (own expense). You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel for check in and some down time.  Later this afternoon you'll set off on a walking tour to Muslim Street for sightseeing.

Dinner tonight will be included in this area.

Day 6 - Wednesday 29 April 2020

Xi'an / Chengdu (B,L)

Enjoy breakfast before visiting the UNESCO  City Wall in Xian. Built in the 14th century, the rectangular Xi'an City Wall measures 14 kilometres and is one of the oldest, largest and most preserved of Chinese city walls. Built as a military defence system under the rule of the Hongwu Emperor, Zhu Yuanzhang, tourists are able to explore the features such as the drawbridges, moat, watchtowers, corner towers and gate towers. Today the Xi'an City Wall is one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites.

From here you will continue on to the Terracotta Warrior Museum which houses an astonishing display of approximately 2,000 life-like terracotta warriors, horses and chariots. The assemblage has been billed by the tourist industry as the Eighth Wonder of the World and a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO in 1987.  It has to be seen to be believed!   

Later this afternoon you will board the Bullet Train to Chengdu, There will be an opportunity to buy dinner on board the train (own expense). Transfer to your hotel on arrival.

Day 7 - Thursday 30 April 2020

Chengdu (B,L,D)

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before setting off with your guide to visit the Giant Panda Breeding Base located in Chengdu. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a non-profit research and breeding facility for giant pandas that was founded in 1987 and started with 6 pandas rescued from the wild. A panda breeding habitat was created that imitates the natural habitat of giant pandas in order to give them the best possible natural environment for breeding. The giant pandas are a national Chinese treasure and loved by people worldwide. The property also houses a museum, as well as research laboratories and a training centre.  After lunch there will be some free time for shopping at the Global Shopping Centre. Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant.

Day 8 - Friday 1 May 2020

Chengdu (B,L,D)

After breakfast you will visit the Sichuan Cuisine Museum.  China has eight main cuisines and Sichuan cuisine is the most famous one. The Sichuan cuisine Museum is the only museum that focuses on Chinese cuisine. In this museum you can experience not only Sichuan cuisine but Sichuan culture such as Sichuan tea, Sichuan wine, Sichuan opera, Sichuan style building and gardening etc. We have included a cooking class where you will learn to cook Sichuan food and then enjoy it for your lunch.

Later stroll along Kuan Zhai Lane before sharing a Sichuan style hot pot dinner.

Day 9 - Saturday 2 May 2020

Chengdu/Chongqing/Yangtze River (B,L,D)

This morning after breakfast, you'll take the train to Chonqing.

Upon arrival there will be time for lunch before visiting the Chongqing Zoo to see more Giant Pandas. After a special Sichuan style hot pot lunch you'll board the Century Legend; your 5 Star Cruise ship and home for the next 3 nights.

The Century Legend was built in 2013, weighing 12,516 tons. The ship can carry up to 408 passengers and has 150 crew members. Century Legend is 148.8 metres in length and boasts 7 decks. The ship has a variety of restaurants, as well as gym facilities, a spa and a swimming pool.

Day 10 - Sunday 3 May 2020

Yangtze River Cruise (B,L,D)

The Yangtze, snaking its way from western China’s Qinghai -Tibet Plateau to the East China Sea is an essential means of transport and we will see many ships carrying all sorts of merchandise. Your first port of call is the remarkable city of Fengdu, believed in days gone by, to be the abode of devils. Here 700 temples with their bizarre statuary on Mingshan Hill bear testimony to the city’s notoriety as the “City of Ghosts”.

This evening you'll enjoy a Captain’s cocktail party followed by entertainment.

Day 11 - Monday 4 May 2020

Yangtze River Cruise (B,L,D)

Today you'll navigate the magnificent Yangtze Gorges passing through the shortest and narrowest gorge Qutang Gorge (8 km), followed by the second gorge, Wu Gorge, (44 km) with peaks rising to dizzy heights above the river. Later you will take an exciting ride by small craft along the swift waters of the Shennong Stream, one of the many tributaries in this fertile area. Here the imposing mountains, dramatic precipices and crystal clear waters offer spectacular scenery. You then return to the ship around 4:00 pm and enter the Xiling Gorge (Western Section), which is the last and longest of the three Gorges, its 75 km are renowned for swift currents and dangerous shoals

Day 12 - Tuesday 5 May 2020

Yichang / Hangzhou (B,L,D)

After breakfast you'll disembark your cruise ship and board a coach to visit one of mankind's greatest engineering feats to date.  The construction site of the Three Gorges Dam. 

Afterwards, you'll be transferred to downtown Yichang for lunch before flying to Hangzhou.  The peaceful tranquillity of this time-worn city is the perfect antidote to the busy, crowded metropolis of Shanghai. Hangzhou locals are extremely proud of their lovely garden city and as the old Chinese saying goes, 'In heaven there is paradise, on earth there is Hangzhou'

Day 13 - Wednesday 6 May 2020

Hangzhou (B,L,D)

After breakfast you will visit a tea farm to experience picking tea and learn from the farmers about tea making.  After lunch you will enjoy a cruise on famous West Lake before fish viewing at Flower Harbour.

After an early dinner we have included an evening show,  “Impression West Lake Natural Scenery show”. This show is directed by the famous filmmaker and director Mr Zhang Yimou who was the general director for the Olympic opening ceremony 2008 in Beijing.

Day 14 - Thursday 7 May 2020

Hangzhou / Shanghai (B,L,D)

After breakfast you will check in at the railway station and board the Bullet Train to Shanghai with an early lunch on arrival.  Afterwards you'll enjoy some time at the Bund and Nanjing Road. The Bund or Waitan is a waterfront area in central Shanghai.

Today you will have the opportunity to meet with a representative from the Shanghai Women's Federation to hear their stories.

Day 15 - Friday 8 May 2020

Shanghai (B,L,D)

After breakfast you will be able to visit a local community in Shanghai. Here you will see local people’s daily life and visit a kindergarden where you will see children aged 3-5 studying from Monday to Friday. 

After lunch, visit the silk museum and learn how to make silk products before a visit to the Xintiandi area and French Concession. 

Dinner tonight will be early before enjoying a fantastic Acrobatic Show.

Day 16 - Saturday 9 May 2020

Enjoy breakfast before visiting Yuyuan Garden and outside market followed by lunch.

You will have a free afternoon before our farewell dinner tonight to celebrate great times spent with new friends!

Day 17 - Sunday 10 May 2020

Shanghai / Melbourne (B)

Enjoy a relaxing morning for last minute shopping and packing before transferring to the airport for our flight back to Australia via Singapore.

Day 18 - Monday 11 May 2020

Welcome Home (Meals Inflight)

Arrive back into Melbourne early this morning.  Say goodbye to your fellow travellers.
