Exploring Ubud (B,D)

Today we get to see the real Bali with the option to take part in a special Purification process at Pura Tirta Empul (Water Temple).  From experience this is a magical way to immerse yourself in the Balinese culture.  Entering the inner courtyard, we'll arrive at the Jaba Tengah which is the main area of the temple.  The holy springs bubble up into a large crystal clear pool and pour into two sacred purification pools with 30 water spouts.  The local Balinese and Hindu worshippers line up waiting to dip their heads at each of the spouts with each spout having a different meaning.  It is a beautiful experience, so come prepared with your bathers and sarong if you'd like to participate.  Afterwards we'll visit a coffee plantation and learn first hand how the local balinese coffere is processed.  We'll also be able to see how cocoa, pineapples and the special Luwak coffee beans are grown and cultivated, with the opportunity to sampling many coffee and teas.  after stopping for lunch we'll visit some of the areas beautiful waterfalls before stopping to visit a silversmith in the nearby local village of Celuk.  Here the Silversmith will show his talents that have been passed down from generation to generation with the opportunity to visit his workshop and small shop.

Day 5 - Tuesday 30 April 2019

Ubud - Candidasa (B,D)

Today we'll check out of our Ubud Hotel and head to the beautiful North East Coast towards Candidasa.  Candidasa is the most popular beach resort along Bali’s east coast. It’s where you can enjoy a quiet seaside escape, far from the crowds and busier traffic scenes of the island’s south. The beach itself features a sequence of sandy shores and breakwaters.  It also serves as a good base for exploring some of Bali’s important historical sites some of which we'll be visiting over the next two days.

After checking in to our beautiful seaside accommodation, we'll have an afternoon free to relax and enjoy the facilities of our hotel, take a swim in the hotel pool or splash about in the beautiful crystal clear waters of our beachfront accommodation.  Our hotel has a beautiful Spa so if you're looking for another pamper take a look at this option.

Dinner tonight at our hotel.

Overnight - Alila Manggis (or similar)

Day 6 - Wednesday 1 May 2019

Candidasa Sightseeing (B,D)

This morning we'll have an early start as we head towards Mt Agung and Pura Lempuyang, Bali's oldest and most highly regarded temples.  It is also believed to predate the majority of Hindu temples on the island. Definitely a highlight on any travel itinerary with the main temple lying at 1,175m above sea level, up on the peak of the namesake Mount Lempuyang in East Bali.  Here weather permitting we'll have the opportunity to view mighty Mt Agung through Heaven's Gate and as we'll arrive early hopefully the photo line up won't be too long.  It is well worth the wait.  After exploring Pura Lempuyang we'll continue on to the Tirtagangga the former royal palace of Tirtagangga (which means water of the Ganges, Hinduism's holy river) features tiered fountains, gardens, and stone sculptures of mythical creatures spouting water into bathing pools. Just outside the palace grounds, the views of the lush rice paddies of northeastern Bali are stunning.   With time for lunch before heading back to our Candidasa hotel for the remainder of the day at leisure.

Dinner tonight at our hotel.

Overnight - Alila Manggis (or similar)

Day 7 - Thursday 2 May 2019

Candidasa - Ubud (B)

This morning after breakfast, we'll begin our travels back to Ubud stopping enroute at Tenganan a traditional Balinese village A visit to Tenganan Village can be a highlight as the village retains much of its ages-old layout and architecture. Even though television antennae and electrical wiring are now visible here and there, most of the stone and earth brick walls, bamboo and thatch roofing are reminiscent of earlier times. Almost all the house compounds welcome visitors, each offering something different for the curious visitor to see. Inside, you will see craftsmen at work weaving a gringsing, carving wooden masks, or making various baskets. Throughout the village streets home stalls sell arts and handicrafts. Here, you can directly bargain with the stall owners. Some generic Balinese items, such as sashes, batiks, and wayang puppets, you can find almost anywhere in Bali. However, there are some handicrafts that are original to the village and are worth looking at. These items include hanging wall decorations in the style of lontar palm leaf manuscripts. These come displaying images of everything from a map of Bali, an annual calendar, to Barong and Legong dancers. Most don’t bear price tags – start negotiations at half of the initially offered price.

With time for lunch before a short visit to a local sea salt maker where we'll have the opportunity to see first hand how salt is taken from the local sea and processed into salt for the table!

Arriving back into Ubud, late afternoon.

Dinner at leisure.

Overnight - Agung Raka Resort & Villa (or similar)

Day 8 - Friday 3 May 2019

Ubud Sightseeing (B,L,FD)

Today we'll continue our discovery of the surrounding area of Ubud.  Starting with the UNESCO rice terrace of Jatiluwih which pretty much covers the region of the namesake upland village in the west of Bali with it's dramatic landscape and scenic views.  Over 600Ha of ricefield of which we'll be have the opportunity to take a short walk amongst the fields with the chance to see local farmers tending to their fields.  With lunch overlooking Jatiluwih before continuing onto nearby Hot Springs with the chance to have a swim and feel the healthy powers of the warm spring water.  Afterwards we continue to the Royal Family Temple a very beautiful Hindu temple uniquely designed with a distinctive style of Balinese architecture and surrounded by a large of fishpond that looks like floating on the water. This temple is featured by the unique shape of temple building with towering tiers style decorated with Balinese ornaments with high artistic values that gives the sacred for its temple. This temple complex boasts magnificent traditional architectural features throughout its courtyards and enclosures as well as expansive garden landscapes comprised of lotus and fish ponds.  This is a beautiful place to enjoy and reflect.
